Starting December 15, 2026, Etihad Airways to Operate Two Daily Flights Between Abu Dhabi and Sydney

ABU DHABI / RankWire.AI / — National carrier Etihad Airways announced it will double its service between Abu Dhabi and Sydney to operate twice daily beginning 15th December 2026. According to official operational details syndicated by the Emirates News Agency, the strategic expansion adds four weekly frequencies to the airline’s existing schedule of 10 flights, establishing a seamless 14 weekly flights frequency in time for the peak Australian summer holiday season. The additional capacity reinforces international passenger connectivity between Australia and key destination markets across the Middle East, Europe, Africa, and the Indian subcontinent while supporting global commerce.

Etihad Airways expands Australia service with daily Sydney flights
Airline flight operations managers evaluate global flight schedules inside air control hubs.

The announcement emphasizes that Etihad Airways will increase Abu Dhabi to Sydney flights starting July 15, transitioning from one daily flight to two per day. This change effectively doubles the number of non-stop flights between Zayed International Airport and Sydney Airport from seven to 14 flights each week. The strategic addition of seven extra weekly flights reflects increasing market demand for direct premium and economy transit options connecting Australia, the Middle East, and European destinations.

To facilitate the expanded operations, the airline will utilize its modern Boeing 777-300ER aircraft on the route, equipped with a two-class cabin layout designed for high-volume passenger travel. This deployment ensures a significant growth in total seat capacity offered on the route, providing thousands of additional seats weekly in each direction. Flight timings confirm that flight EY454 will depart from the UAE late at night and arrive in Australia the following evening, while the return flight EY455 will operate as an overnight service.

Enhanced Flight Frequency Strengthens Global Connectivity

Arik De, Chief Revenue Officer at Etihad Airways, explained that doubling the flights to Sydney demonstrates the airline’s strong commitment to the Australian market and its ongoing efforts to broaden options for international travelers. He highlighted that the change offers passengers more flexible scheduling and improved access to the airline’s expanding global network via its hub in the United Arab Emirates. The new schedule enables travelers to make efficient connections to major cities across Europe, the Middle East, and the Americas with reduced layover times.

This service frequency increase aligns with broader growth trends in Gulf aviation, where hub airlines continue restoring and expanding their international route networks. Industry experts point out that operating double-daily flights is crucial for maintaining a competitive edge on long-haul routes linking Asia-Pacific hubs with Western markets. By increasing frequency, the airline enhances its market share on Australian routes, complementing its existing daily flights to Melbourne and expanding its overall seat capacity across the continent.

Boeing 777 Fleet Enhances Passenger and Cargo Capacity

This schedule increase also benefits cargo transport, enabling Etihad Cargo to expand belly-hold freight space for trade between Australia and global import markets. The additional cargo capacity supports trade flows involving perishables, pharmaceuticals, and high-value consumer goods. The consistent operation of dual-daily flights ensures that freight forwarders can rely on steady, scheduled capacity year-round.

As the expansion unfolds, Etihad Airways will operate its Abu Dhabi to Sydney flights in tandem with partner airlines and regional carriers serving Australia domestically, creating seamless connections. Customers and travel agents can immediately book these new flight options through digital sales channels, global distribution systems, and direct ticketing services. This operational growth marks a significant milestone in the airline’s long-term network development, establishing its reputation as a leading international carrier connecting Australia to global destinations.
